Durban's Best Shwarma

The best Shwarma in town

Durban's best shwarma (according to Mr Lunga) and I stay true to this statement and it has been this way for me for many years, well ever since I started living in Durban about ten years ago. There's always that one food store that I return to all the time.

I'm talking about Aladdin's, situated at The WorkShop shopping centre right  in the Durban CBD. Now if you must now the shwarmas sold at Aladdin's are really good and you can see this by the long lines at the store that happen all day and trust me it's always worth the wait.

So I bought four this time around because I wanted to blog about it (actually was sharing between two people) and I had one as a prop for this post which ended up inside my tummy later on. As you can see the packaging it's wrapped in is to fully seal in the goodness (more so the filling doesn't seep out). Pretty neat and tight packing to make sure the quality of the shwarma stays in for longer.

The packaging is compact and very convenient for eating on the go (I like to call it the "city snack") but you must be warned, getting to the shwarma through the wrapping while walking can be a little tricky.

So there it is, in it's scrumptious glory. Now I'll tell you about the ingredients that make up this super awesome shwarma. It consists of:

  • Tortilla
  • Lettuce
  • Tomatoes
  • Onions
  • Fries
  • Cheese
  • Chili Mayo Dressing
The fun thing about ordering a shwarma (well for me that is) is that you watch it being made right in front of you! From when they take the tortilla and lay on the fillings, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, fries or chips or slap chips (potatoes!) cheese, dressing and most importantly the seasoned grilled chicken!
They then wrap it up nicely and they toast it, all of this makes up for a very tasty experience. I have to be honest with you the one thing I like the best about Aladdin's shwarmas is the tortilla it's just so yummy! The way it's fresh, crispy and soft all at the same is really mind blowing.

Yum yum delicious! (that's after I demolished it) and that is the end of my first episode into my food adventures. I hope you liked this post and if you have some shwarma spots that you think are way better be sure to share them in the comments.
