Telefunken Tablet review
12:12:00 PMTelefunken 1013GIQA Review
Are tablets dead? Well the tech industry seems to think so, well they could be right and that's because most smartphones can do more than what tablets are capable of and another reason is they will never replace a personal computer. Well, let me tell you that they are not dead (for me that is).
In this post I would like to point out how tablets can be useful as they have been to me, now before I talk about my current tablet I just want to briefly mention my first tablet a Blaupunkt Netbot (I only buy tablets when they are dirt cheap) for only R799 at Jet back in 2012 or 2013. I always say 'it's what you're going to do with it that counts' what I mean by this is there is really no point forking out your life's savings to buy a tech product that's pricey when an affordable one can do exactly the same thing (yeah I'm talking to you iPad users) and all I wanted to do was browse the Internet and download some movies and music. It also doesn’t stop at that, having a tablet is so practical because it's so portable and can be used almost anywhere. Now I have since broken the screen of my first tablet my tiny little 7incher (ah you are dearly missed).
Fast forward to 2017 now with an ever demanding lifestyle I now have a need for a tablet well actually I was getting a little out of shape and with my gym membership I needed something a little extra to get me into shape, so I thought it would be a good idea to have training videos that I could take to the gym. A phone was going to be too small and my laptop was going to be too much to lug to the gym so a tablet was a neat idea.
Wowza! At just the perfect time Game was having an amazing special selling a Telefunken tablet for a super affordable price of only R999 and it had all the specifications I was seeking (mostly the 10inch screen) boy did this feel like a steal because this tablet had way more features than my previous one.
The Telefunken Tel-1013GIQA I know right? What a boring name I mean my last one had 'netbot' assigned to it this one is just '1013GIQA' couldn’t they think of something in the likes of 'netspeed', 'netfunk' or 'telebot' I mean they could have thought of anything but they stuck with '1013GIQA' ugh.
Anyway, lets look at the good features that it comes with:
ANDROID 5.1 LOLLIPOP
SPREADTRUM QUAD CORE PROCESSOR
1GB RAM
8GB INTERNAL MEMORY
FRONT CAMERA 0.3MP
REAR CAMERA 2MP
1 YEAR WARRANTY
WIFI AND BLUETOOTH
DUAL SIM
MICRO SD (UP TO 32GB)
Now I could care less for the other features like the fact that it can take sim cards with 3G speeds but I'm just not one of those people that use a tablet as a phone (why Y'all do that? I mean really?) but I can see how useful in the future for connecting to the INTERNET when you are out of Wi-Fi range. The main reason for getting this tablet was to help me out with gym exercises because I have a phobia for personal interaction with personal trainers and general gym patrons (don't ask me why).
The watermarks are due to a flooding in my flat, bummer. |
Out of the box, you get the 10inch Tablet (great screen size), a charger and a user manual. That's all you get, I mean you can't expect much for the price they are charging but trust me this tablet is totally worth it.
Sleek, sturdy and well built sometimes it surprises me that I had bought this for just R999 because when compared to other tablets in the same price range they are just not well constructed and they aren't this sexy at all.
So initially I had a whole set of HIIT exercises loaded to my tablet (basically call it a modern day gym book) and trust me it became very useful in the gym and once I hooked up my Bluetooth workout headsets I was sweating like a boss!
Between my uses of the tablet as a gym assistant, I was a power user in other forms, its most use was for YouTube I don't watch TV anymore I spend most of my time on YouTube watching great shows that keep me entertained when I'm doing daily tasks around the house. When I prepare a meal it's great to catch up on my YouTube shows. Also when cleaning after hooking it up to the soundbar through the Bluetooth feature it makes cleaning (and washing dishes) more tolerable. I haven't used the camera ever since I bought it (I don't even want to torture my eyes with the low-quality camera) because I didn't buy it to take pictures.
There are some pretty impressive qualities that this tablet clearly surprised me with. The battery life is long lasting especially since I view a lot of videos on it. The speaker is pretty loud and clear. Connectivity is so fast (Bluetooth and WiFi) and lastly the screen, most people always look for that cutting edge high-quality screen. Yes for the price that this tablet is selling for you won't get anything close to 'the best' screen but it's good enough that you don't even notice that it's a cheap tablet and I love this tablet more and more every day.
One of the best uses and features for a tablet is for reading and I have just recently realised I need to do quite a lot of reading to have more knowledge in certain areas and with ebooks being so convenient you can store a lot of them on your tablet and that's what I did. Being able to read on my commute to work (in public transport) or on the comfort of my own bed is pretty neat.
In conclusion, this a great tablet for its price and totally worth it and no, tablets are certainly not dead as they clearly have a use and purpose for the masses. Tablets are more than just for taking pictures or using them to make phone calls, yes games are fun too but lets use them fully for their features and with the ample supply of apps from the play store you can get really creative with your tablet. Make sure you get a case or a protective cover to prevent any damages and do it before you even take it out of the box, trust me I'm talking form experience!
